Energy conservation is becoming more and more important in today's modern world. The average home is filled with a wide variety of devices and appliances that require electricity in order to properly function. And while some of these devices use a relatively low amount of power, such as a stereo or alarm clock, others require a great deal of energy. Large appliances such as refrigerators and dishwashers utilize a lot of electricity everyday and are often some of the biggest energy users within a home. Fortunately, by investing in appliances such as an energy efficient washer, the average homeowner can save a considerable amount of money over time.
On average, a typical American family can easily wash upwards of four hundred loads of laundry per year. And when one takes into account both the electricity that is required for each load, as well as the amount of water, it is easy to see just how much money this can cost on an annual basis. Unfortunately, going without clean clothes is simply not an option for most people, and as a result, the laundry cycle continues daily. However, today there are a variety of washing machines, from a variety of manufacturers, which can deliver clean clothes while dramatically lowering the cost of doing laundry.
If you own a washing machine that is more than ten years old, it might be time to consider investing in an energy efficient washer. Older washers are not only a drain on electricity, but they also tend to use a great deal more water than do most modern washing machines. And in an era when conservation is becoming extremely important, anything that can be done to help reduce the amount of resources consumed on a daily basis is a good thing. However, buying a new washing machine is not exactly a trivial expense, as they can cost hundreds of dollars, if not more. But if one keeps in mind that over the course of five to ten years, the cost of the initial purchase is offset by the amount of money saved in electricity and water bills, they do make a sensible investment.
Once the decision has been made to invest in a new washer, it is important to do a bit of research before spending any hard-earned money. There are a wide variety of makes and models available to today's consumers, but not all are created equal. One of the easiest ways to begin your search is to focus on those washers that have received an official Energy Star rating. This governmental certification is only given to those appliances that meet a very exacting standard for energy efficiency. These appliances are easy to spot in any showroom, as they usually carry this certification conspicuously placed right on the front of the machine.
An energy efficient washer is just one of many ways by which one can help conserve our planet's natural resources. When combined with other efficient appliances, they can have a significant impact on both the environment as well as one's pocketbook.
